    Description

Vintage old clock that in some way has connections with an Andover, Massachusetts first firemen's muster in that town.  My late husband, being a retired firefighter from that town was always looking for items connected  to Andover.   It was 1993 I believe, when we were attending the Brimfield Flea Market in Brimfield, Ma. that he came across this item. The clock itself didn't attract him as much as the note that was tucked away inside the bottom of this item. After he purchased the clock he asked the seller if he was aware there was a note inside the clock, to which the seller responded he did not, and after finding out it did he wanted it back, to late.  The note inside the clock was dated 1872, and was written to the Deputy Fire Chief of Andover, Ma.  The note was from a Mary Appleyard, (last two letters could be different as it was hard to make out)  who stated that the clock was awarded as a prize at the first firemen's muster held in Andover, and according to a Lucy Craik, (widow of Jim Craik) , the prize had been awarded to her husband.  The note was signed by Mary Appleyard of Cohasset, Ma.   The clock stands 13" high and is about 8" wide, there is a crack on the left side of the clock, but we  have had it 28 years and it has not gotten any worse,    I do believe however there  is something that was broken off, which was that way when we purchased it, on the bottom between the man and woman who look to be praying over something, not sure what it might have been.  The couple is standing in front of a church praying.   The clock of course is no longer in working order.  On the face of the clock on the bottom is written "Made in Germany".   Buyer to pay priority shipping, thanks for looking.
